±1±: Best Buy I bought this one and the first one at the same time and then mixed them up and read this one first. It didn't bother me too much, though I think there were some references made that would have made more sense if I'd read the first one, well, first. :) I loved the plot of the book and the various conspiracies set forth. I don't know anything about flying, so Mr. Ward could have made all the technical stuff up. If that's the case then he's a wonderful BSer, but my guess is he really knows his facts about planes and shuttles. The only constructive criticism I have to offer is some of the dialogue didn't seem to flow right for me. Now back to read book one! on Sale!

Love can be a dangerous thing....
Hanna simply wants to be loved. With a head plagued by hallucinations, a medicine cabinet full of pills, and a closet stuffed with frilly, violet dresses, Hanna's tired of being the outcast, the weird girl, the freak. So she runs away to Portero, Texas in search of a new home.

±1±: Best Buy Bleeding Violet is the most bizarre and amazing book I have read this year. I am not exaggerating when I say that you will literally be reading this book and suddenly say "WTF?!" out loud. This town that Dia has created (Portero, Texas) is full of monsters (too many to even mention), a suicide door, portals to other locations, and a very shady history. This town has enough crazy to go around....enter Hanna.
Hanna is crazy....no literally she is crazy. She is a little strange and hallucinating about her dead father is just the icing on the cake. Hanna is obsessed with purple (hence the title). She even makes her own purple dresses and never goes out in anything but one of her dresses and a pair of heels. Hanna comes to Portero to keep from being sent to an institution. When Hanna shows up on her Rosalie's (her mother's) door step it is clear that Hanna is not welcome. But Hanna is stubborn and will not take no for an answer.
When Hanna starts school she immediately realizes that there is defiantly something strange about this town. Why does everybody wear black? Why does everyone wear earplugs in class? Oh but wait, not everybody is in all black. Wyatt appears on the scene in all of his gorgeousness wearing a lovely shade of green and kicking some major monster ass. Hanna is immediately determined to become a fixture in his life.
Turns out, Wyatt is a member of a group called the Mortmaine, a group of hunters that protects Portero. Despite all of the killing, fighting, and literally being eaten going on it is amazing that Hanna and Wyatt find time to fit romance into the mix. I feel the need to once again say how incredibly insane this book is (wait until you read the naked by the lake scene) but it is also amazing once you finish it. Oh and the cover art is fantastic! How can you not pick it up off the shelf? FYI - this book is more mature then your average YA book. Hanna and Wyatt have a sexual relationship and some scenes are a little bloody/graphic. If you love it as much as I did you will be happy to know that Dia Reeves is releasing another book set in the crazy town of Portero, Texas. Slice of Cherry will be out January 2011! New characters same crazy town! I cant wait!

±1±: Best Buy I don't think any of Ward's recent books will ever compare to the first four of the BDB, but this one came close. I wasn't looking forward to John Matthew's story. After his transition, he became more and more of a jerk. In Rehv's book, he was downright unlikeable. To top it off, I'd never, ever been a fan of Xhex. This book started off really weak and really slow, and then it picked up, and I couldn't put it down. I was repulsed and grossly fascinated by Lash's rise to power and subsequent fall from...everything. I think Xhex's character naturally came around. I was wondering how Ward was going to do it, and she did it well. By the end of the book, I absolutely believed that Xhex had falled madly in love with John. It wasn't like push, push, push, push...ok! It all happened realistically.I softened towards Xhex, too, and really came to understand her, even like her. She's not one of my favorite, like Beth or Bella, but I like her a lot more than boring old Mary and bossy Jane. The latest addition to the series had lots and lots of appearances by my favorite characters. It was chock full of the brothers, and that's what I want. Of course, I want special moments will all the brothers and their mates, too, but that just can't happen, so I'm ok with that. I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the Blay/Qhuinn storyline, but I don't know where it's going to end up. There's no way Ward with have a book just dedicated to Blay and Qhuinn. I wouldn't mind at all, but I'm guessing most readers would go berserk. So I'm assuming that IF Blay and Qhuinn get a happily-ever-after book, she'll pair them up with another couple, which ticks me off because the more characters she pairs up, the fewer additions to the series we all get. GRRR. Thor's storyline is heartbreaking. He's come such a long way since the last book. I'm so glad he's getting himself together to fight for Wellsie's memory. I'm so glad he and John came to an understanding. I was crying really hard at the end. I can't imagine how Ward is going to give him a book, but I'm sure I'll be crying buckets in that, too. Can't wait for the next one!!!! on Sale!

±1±: Best Buy I was really keeping my fingers crossed with Lover Mine since John Matthew has been a very special character in the series. I was a little more worried since I was disappointed with Lover Avenged, but in the end I do feel that John Matthew got his story told and told well. His character speaks volumes regardless of the mute disability, and when he hurts emotionally it seems that much more profound to me. I will say that, of course, I missed the other brothers but apparently they're not what this book was about. This book seemed, to me, to open doorways in the labyrinth that is the Brotherhood as well as teach us more of their history. At first the historical writings bothered me until I realized the truths behind them, and then I was fascinated. The side stories of this book were pieces of the puzzle that I believe will come together in the end. Unlike some readers, I've enjoyed the transition from paranormal romance to the more urban fantasy genre the series has taken in the last few books. Or I should say, it doesn't bother me much as I read and enjoy both genres. So if you want a lot of romance or hope to get the skinny on the other brothers, then no, you probably won't enjoy this story. The negative I will say is I thought Xhex's character softened quite a bit in this book than what we had witnessed in the previous stories. I don't mind soft but with her character that would've been a 180. Some would say her abduction would've broken her, but I believe it would've hardened her more to the point of foolishness. But that's my op and observation so... on Sale!

Not cool, Amazon. Not cool at all. on Sale!
